Nearly 75% of all water used in the home is used in the bathroom. With new water-saving devices, bathroom water use can be reduced by as much as 50% with little or no change in lifestyle.
- Replace old shower heads with a low-flow shower head (9.6L/minute) as it reduces water use by more than 60% with no loss of performance. Reduce your hot water consumption by up to 50% by using low-flow aerated showerheads, and save 15% off your monthly power bill. The air added to the water keeps the water pressure strong while saving you hot water and money.
- Reduce the time you spend in the shower, even it is just a minute or two.
- Turn off the shower while you are shampooing.
- If you use the tub, bathe in only a couple of centimeters of water instead of a full tub.
- Take showers rather than baths as showers use about a third as much water.
- A water efficient toilet (6L or less) uses up to 80% less water than a standard toilet, and with dual flush toilets offer even greater savings.
- Install faucet aerators on your bathroom taps.
- Turn off the faucet while brushing teeth or shaving; only use water when you need to rinse.
- Don’t use the toilet as a trash can.
